As the meeting point between Asia and Europe, Istanbul signifies the aims of FECAVA and this unique veterinary event - to advance the profession, strengthen community, and facilitate communication between colleagues.
FECAVA, The Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations, was founded in 1990 at a meeting in Bienne (Biel) in Switzerland.
Initially 13 European Veterinary Companion Animal Associations represented 12 countries. Today there are
37 members representing 37 European countries. In addition,
12 European Specialist Groups are Associate Members.
Through its Member Associations, FECAVA works to the benefit of over 30,000 veterinarians in Europe.

FECAVA is led by the President and his/her Board, comprising the Vice President, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer. The most recent Past President is invited to attend Board meetings so that his/her wisdom is available to the Board.
The current President of FECAVA is Dr. Johan Van Tilburg from Belgium. The President and the Board members (the Officers) are elected for two years at the time. The next election will be held in 2011.
Each Member Association elects a Director to represent his/her association in FECAVA. The Council of FECAVA directors meets twice year. The last council meeting in 2010 was held in June in Geneva.
FECAVA’S AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The work of FECAVA can be divided into three main areas:
CONGRESS, SYMPOSIUM AND CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES
The FECAVA Congress is hosted each year by one or more of the Member Associations. Every second or third year the FECAVA Congress is held together with the World Congress of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).
